But yeah, it’s an old buckling-spring IBM Model M, made in 1988. I’ve got a stash of them, plus two in use (one at home, one at work). They’re all I’ll use.

Mine has volume controls, mapped to function keys, as well as a bunch of other handy functions. I don’t know how to do it in Windows but I’m sure it’s possible.

You can still find them pretty easily on eBay (but make doubly-sure that all the keycaps are present and that it comes with a cable), and Lexmark sold the manufacturing side to Unicomp, who sells them new in 101- or 104-key formats for $59.

I loved mine. I hate these new lightweight things. Give me a big keyboard with some real mass. Although I’d die without volume control buttons. Stupid convenience.

The thing that would suck for me is when I’m on at this hour. The monitor is my only light source, so seeing the keyboard would be impossible.

And OMG I love that userpic.

Initially you think that it would be just like looking at writing paper on a desk, and then you realize that people who write a lot use angled tabletops for a reason!

Also, we have a glass-topped coffee table and dining room table, and I know how often those need to be cleaned. Looking at the state of my desk right now, I don’t know how I’d see the monitor in the first place. :-)
